M. Carmen Parafita Couto (PhD Uni Kansas, teaching/research experience at Kenyon College in Ohio, at the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice in Bangor, and at the Leiden University Center for Linguistics) has recently joined the LVTC research group as a María Zambrano senior researcher. Her main line of research focuses on uncovering the linguistic patterns and strategies used by multilinguals as they switch seamlessly between their languages. Within the field, she introduced methodological innovations in my research, combining methodological tools ranging from corpus data to behavioural methods, and more recently also electrophysiological measures. Dr Parafita has worked on different communities and language combinations: Spanish-English, Spanish-Nicaraguan Creole English, Welsh-English, Papiamento-Dutch, Basque-Spanish, Galician-Spanish, Portuguese-Dutch, among others. Dr Parafita has served as primary organizer of numerous workshops and conferences. She is editor-in-chief of the open-access book series 'Current Issues in Bilingualism' (Language Science Press) and associate editor of Isogloss. Open Journal of Romance Linguistics.
