LVTC member Yolanda Fernández-Pena delivered the talk “Do we speak incorrectly? A look at fragments in speech” at the Pint of Science festival in Vigo on 19 May 2026. While written language generally follows grammatical conventions learned at school, spoken language does not always adhere to the same principles. In everyday conversation, speakers frequently produce utterances that do not fit the traditional subject-predicate structure. The LVTC project 'Fragment' investigates these non-canonical structures and their role in communication. Yolanda's talk focused on fragmentary or incomplete expressions such as Good morning, Hello, Whenever you like or If it’s not a problem, which are communicatively equivalent to complete sentences despite lacking their full grammatical form.
