Esperanza Rama-Martínez is tenured Senior Lecturer at the University of Vigo (Spain) since December 2003. She graduated in English Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1990. She holds an MA in Discourse Studies for Language Teaching and Learning from the University of Liverpool (1991) and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2001) with a dissertation, Political Interviews, Talk Show Interviews, and Debates on British TV: A Contrastive Study of the Interactional Organisation of Three Broadcast Genres, supervised by Prof. Dr. Tomás Jiménez Juliá. She has mainly lectured on English phonetics and phonology, semantics, pragmatics, and oral discourse analysis at undergraduate level and on applied conversation analysis at postgraduate level. Her main research interests concentrate on the interactional organization of broadcast talk, historical courtroom discourse as developed from the Late Modern English period onwards, and prosody. She has supervised the PhD thesis A Comprehensive Analysis on how ELT Coursebooks Promote Teaching Pronunciation in Portuguese Public Schools, which obtained the highest grade with distinction (08/09/2022). She is currently co-supervising the following theses: Huntin', Shootin' and Fishin': The Development of the Velar Nasal in Eighteenth-Century English and Predicting Pitch Prominence in Tri-Constituent Compound Nouns: A Speech Perception and Production Analysis. Member of the excellence research network English Linguistics Circle since 2008; member of the UVigo teaching innovation group Educación transformadora: Ciencia, comunicación e sociedade since 2020; and co-editor of the UVigo journal Babel AFIAL: Aspectos de Filoloxía Inglesa e Alemá since 2017. Head of the Language Centre of the University of Vigo Foundation from April 2014 to August 2016.
