Xulia Sánchez-Rodríguez holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting (2021) and an MA in Advanced English Studies specialising in English Linguistics (2023) from the Universidade de Vigo. She also completed an MA in Education Training for Language Teaching (2022) at the same university.
In her MA thesis titled ‘Pity that semi-insubordination (SIS) is so hard to retrieve from corpora: A pilot study of SIS in contemporary British English’ (supervisors: Dr. Javier Pérez-Guerra and Dr. Yolanda Fernández-Pena), she conducted a comprehensive analysis of the diachronic evolution of SIS structures in contemporary British English by means of a quantitative examination of their frequency, form and function.
In October 2023 she started her PhD, on which she continues to work on SIS structures within the 'Fragments: Constructionalising non-canonical expressions in written English' project under one of the pre-doctoral grants awarded by the University of Vigo.
During her studies, she participated in the Erasmus+ programme at Université Rennes 2 (2017-2018) and carried out a research stay at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (2023) under the supervision of Dr. Lotte Sommerer. She also worked as a researcher in computational linguistics at CiTIUS (Singular Research Center on Intelligent Technologies), at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, from July 2023 to March 2024 under the supervision of Dr. Marcos Garcia.
